Cleaning Your Baby Humidifier

As someone who loves to take care of my home and my health, I know how important it is to keep my humidifier clean. Here are some reasons why cleaning your humidifier is crucial:

  1. Prevents the growth of bacteria and mold: When you use a humidifier, it creates a moist environment that can be a breeding ground for bacteria and mold. If you don’t clean your humidifier regularly, these harmful microorganisms can grow and spread throughout your home, potentially causing health problems.
  2. Improves air quality: A clean humidifier will help improve the air quality in your home by adding moisture to the air without introducing harmful bacteria and mold spores. We don’t want those developing lungs to breath a bunch of mold and mildew!
  3. Extends the life of your humidifier: Regular cleaning will help your humidifier last longer and work more efficiently. Over time, mineral deposits can build up in the water tank and on the internal components of the humidifier, which can cause it to malfunction.
  4. Reduces unpleasant odors: If you don’t clean your humidifier regularly, it can start to produce unpleasant odors that can be difficult to get rid of. By cleaning your humidifier regularly, you can prevent these odors from developing in the first place.

So, how often should you clean your baby’s humidifier? It’s recommended that you clean your humidifier at least once a week, or more often if you notice any signs of mold or bacteria growth. Here’s how to clean your humidifier:

  1. Unplug the humidifier and empty any remaining water from the tank.
  2. Disassemble the humidifier and remove any filters or other removable parts.
  3. Clean the tank and other parts with a mixture of water and white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning.
  4. Rinse all parts thoroughly with clean water and allow them to air dry before reassembling the humidifier.

By following these simple steps, you can keep your humidifier clean and running smoothly, while also improving the air quality in your home. A happy and healthy baby makes everyone’s lives so much easier!

How close should the humidifier be to the baby?

The general recommendation is 3 to 4 feet from your babies sleep space. This distance should keep the crib free of residual moisture and it’s far enough away where the baby shouldn’t be able to pull the humidifier down.
You’ll also want the humidifier to be about 3 feet off the ground so you don’t get wet floors.

How often should you clean a babies humidifier

Most manufacturers recommend cleaning at least weekly, they get gross fast! I prefer dishwasher-safe parts to make the cleaning easier!
If mom duties have you stretched pretty thin, you can always dump out the base in the morning and let it dry throughout the day. This should help with the grossness buildup.
