Signs of Conception | How To Tell If You’re Pregnant

There are several signs of conception besides missing your monthly period. If you’re trying to have a baby, you may be thrilled and hopeful when you realize you haven’t had your period, but other tell-tale signs can show up even before you’re supposed to have your menstruation. Check our list of very early signs of conception to see if you need to pay your doctor a visit.

Pregnant Yet? | Signs of Conception to Watch Out For

1. Slight Bleeding and Cramps

A fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall about 6 to 12 days after ovulation. This causes spotting or slight bleeding called implantation bleeding. Since it often also comes with cramps, many women mistake this for their regular monthly period.

Implantation bleeding and the cramps that go with it, however, are less than the regular period a woman experiences. If you don’t normally feel cramps when you have your menstruation and you also notice a white, milky discharge along with the spotting, then it may be a sign of conception discharge.

2. Morning Sickness

It may be called morning sickness, but the truth is it can strike at any time. This is one of the most common conception symptoms. Morning sickness can be experienced differently by different women. It can begin as early as two weeks after conception.

The feeling of nausea can occur with or without vomiting. It can also be triggered due to a pregnant woman’s heightened sense of smell. If you find yourself feeling queasy from the strong scent of perfumes, cooking food, or cigarettes (which don’t normally bother you), it may be time to get yourself checked. Morning sickness can be difficult to deal with but you can follow certain tips to help you get by.

3. Changes in your Breasts

You may feel a difference in your breasts once you have conceived. Rapid hormonal changes can increase the blood flow to your breast tissues. This can make your boobs feel sore, tingly, or swollen, and may even cause nipple sensitivity.

4. Frequent Urination

If you find yourself taking more trips to the bathroom than usual without increased liquid intake, it can be a sign of conception. The kidneys receive increased blood flow during pregnancy, which produces more urine. This can happen as early as the first week of your pregnancy.

This is bound to happen again during your third trimester. At that point, your growing uterus is going to put more pressure on your bladder, which will set you up for more toilet trips.

5. Fatigue

Feeling very tired at the onset of pregnancy is very much normal and expected. In the early stages of pregnancy, your body produces more progesterone hormones. High level of progesterone can make you feel more tired than usual and can even make you sleepy.

Lower blood pressure and blood sugar, plus increased blood production, can also contribute to the fatigue you feel. You can deal with this symptom by exercising regularly and eating healthy to boost your energy.

6. Unusual Cravings

Hormonal changes in pregnancy not only heighten your sense of smell, it affects your other senses too. You may find yourself less tolerant to the taste of a food you usually love. The changes in your hormones can also cause you to crave the food you don’t usually find appealing. You may have a sweet tooth, but during pregnancy, you might find yourself reaching for something salty.

7. Constipation or Gas

An increase in your hormonal level also affects your digestive tract. This can cause your digestive system to slow down, which results in constipation or gas. When this happens, it’s advisable to drink more water and add more fiber to your diet.

8. Mood Swings

You can blame this one again on your rapidly changing hormones. Women often experience this before getting their period, and you can bet you’re also going to experience this during pregnancy. Mood swings alone aren’t sufficient to assume pregnancy. But if you’re experiencing this along with the signs listed above, it may be a good idea to head on to the pharmacy and grab a pregnancy test kit.

9. Headache and Back Pain

Pregnancy causes a lot of uncomfortable symptoms, among them is headache and back pain. This is also due to your ever-changing hormone levels, and in some cases, the implantation also causes the back to ache. Again, these two are not enough to assume pregnancy, but with the added symptoms listed above, it would be a good idea to go see a doctor.
