Month 14 With Your Baby!

Baby is curious; intent on doing the things she wants to do right now and this can make life very interesting and somewhat hectic for you. Having only just gained the ability to move around on her own recently, she is enjoying being able to propel herself where she wants to go instead of waiting for someone to do it for her and she’s rather quick at it too!

Month 14 Of What To Expect From Your Baby

Welcome To Month Fourteen With Your Baby!

Baby’s primary focus is on walking, if she hasn’t started to do so yet. She is walking with support by now, or rather shuffling from place to place using furniture, but unsupported walking may still be on her list of things to master. Since she is so keen on mastering this skill, she may be focusing a bit less on learning other new things. Don’t fret if she has suddenly stopped mimicking you or trying out new sounds. When you spot her lifting her feet off the ground as she moves along, you know she is ready to start trying out some unsupported walking. Until now, she has been sliding her feet along the floor.

Baby may still be taking a lot of interest when you are reading out aloud to her. In fact, you will see her staring fixedly at your face when you are talking to her. She is also growing out of the need to have someone around her constantly and she can amuse herself for some time.

Month 14 Of Helpful Hints For Mommy

  • Encourage independent play on her own for short periods of time. By this stage baby well and truly understands that even if she can’t see you in the room, you have not disappeared off the face of the earth.
  • Start introducing her to various utensils (the ones that can’t injure her) and get her involved in your cooking. You will be surprised at how quickly she will learn if you have her favorite food in front of her. Having a little trainee chef next to you certainly can get messy but it keeps your curious toddler occupied while cooking and teaches them about food at the same time.

Try this: get your toddler to help sprinkle cheese and veggies on a homemade pizza or have a go at grating that carrot for your salad. Maybe they’d like to help mixing that muffin batter with a wooden spoon – or their hands 🙂

  • She is experimenting with what you will or will not let her do. You may hear her parrot back the word ‘No’ to you when she does not want to do what you want her to. While we do not suggest that you give in to baby’s demands every time, it is good for you to remember that it is not defiance, but experimentation that she is doing at this age. Gentle distraction works bestand is age appropriate to deal with getting your toddler to do what you want (or stop doing something that you want them to do).
